Pete Matthews was elected President of AFSCME District Council 33, the largest Municipal Workers Union in the City of Philadelphia, in October 1996. Prior to being elected, President Matthews served six consecutive terms (18 years) as the Business Manager of Local 394, the Philadelphia Water Department Employees.

He has been married to his lovely wife Margaret for 34 years and has four children and four grandchildren. He is an avid distance runner and has completed several marathons, including both the Philadelphia and Boston Marathons. A graduate of Thomas Edison Senior High School, Pete attended Temple University and is currently pursuing Trade Union Studies at Harvard University.

Strong Leadership for AFSCME District Council 33

Bette MacDonald has been a member of AFSCME District Council 33 for over thirtyfour years. She served as Chief Steward of Crossing Guards Local 1956 for many years before being elected President in 1996 (?).

Bette serves on the Executive Board of District Council 33 and on the Board of the Health and Welfare Fund. She is also a Labor Liaison on the Board of the United Way.

Bobby C. Davis has served as the President of Local 696, one of the largest local unions in District Council 33, since 1996.

He has continued to deliver for the members of Local 696 ever since, including saving jobs, helping members to upgrade their jobs, encouraging better labor/management relations, educating officers, delegates and members about the contract, civil service regulations and city policies that impact members on the job.
